Remembrance Day at Unley Memorial Gardens

Commemorating the signing of the armistice which ended the "war to end all wars' on 11th November 1918, a moving service was held at the Unley Memorial Gardens next to Unley Shopping Centre.  With the Unley Concert Band, Walford Girls School Choir  and representatives from  the three services, perfect weather, I would rate it as very successful  Remembrance Day organised by the local RSL  It was great to see so many young people there to pay their respects.

As an ex Pomm who grew up having to stand up or the National Anthem, God Save the Queen even before the show in the local cinema, I have often wondered why we never sung the second verse, which I would imagine was popular at times of war,

2. O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

Perhaps it is no longer politically correct.

Thanks to the Unley Council for their hospitality after the service.
